MOTHERHOOD MUST-HAVES

Life has gotten really busy with a little one. The love you have for a child is on another level. It’s the deepest love that comes with selflessness, so many new challenges, sacrifices, and major life changes. In between the feedings, pumping, diaper changes and rocking baby to sleep 8+ times a day, devoting myself to a little human 24/7 has me feeling trapped, exhausted, cranky and lost at times. It’s a new identity I’m still coming into terms with. Though I know it’s temporary, man, some days it’s really hard. I know I’m not alone because so many mothers experience this. What I found most helpful is that a little bit of self care can go a long way. I’m sharing how I’ve recently carved out time for the things that bring me joy, to keep the sanity and feel like myself again. If you have a special mother in your life, whether it’s your wife, sister, or friend, the best gift you can give her is me time and maybe treat her to some TLC with my product recs ahead, too.

Do Meditate - No matter how crazy things may get or how anxious I might feel, meditating followed by a moment of gratitude for as little as 5 minutes (in the morning or even before bed) has really helped me reduce stress and release negative emotions. Headspace or InsightTimer are my favorite apps for this.

Add Aromatherapy - A pleasant scent can do a lot for your mind and body. I used to love taking long baths, but time doesn’t really allow this anymore. Instead, for the same effect, before jumping into the shower, I light up my favorite candle and take in the uplifting scent as I’m cleansing. It’s so calming, relaxing and feels like a mini spa session at home. I also like using a cleanser that smells great. I’ve grown to love this Silkening Moisture Cleanser from Ama.la Beauty as my nightly go-to. It could be a candle, body wash, face mask etc. Choose what smells good to you and soak it in during shower time.

Slip Into a Chic Lounge Set - Even a new pair of sweats can lift my spirits these days. Being home all the time now means dressing down is the new dressing up. Trade in your mismatched pajamas and try a set that’s equal parts comfy, luxurious and makes you feel beautiful at home. My favorite ones of the moment include this luxe robe and trouser combo by Storq and the softest lounge set from Mate the Label. Use code: JULIE20 for 20% OFF at Mate :)

Put on Something Shiny - Wearing jewelry at home? Why not? A hint of spark always makes me feel put together. I’m currently layering this mama charm from Maison Miru and a custom necklace with my son’s initial from Kozakh. As I enter this journey into motherhood, these delicate pieces are so special and meaningful to me.

With those free minutes, I do have to pick and choose what self-care will look like for that day. Sometimes I’ll get to one of these things and other days maybe I’ll be able to knock out a few. (it really depends on the baby’s schedule daily). It’s important for me to be mindful, not to rush these moments and take it all in. Though these acts may seem small, its made a world of a difference in my overall mood and well-being daily, putting me into a good mindset and has made me show up better as a mom and wife.
